Ellis County Salvation Army Donates 300+ Suitcases for Children and Youth in Foster Care

Ellis County Salvation Army Donation to KVC Wheatland

KVC Wheatland Hospital is giving thanks this November for the support received from so many in the Hays community. Wheatland is especially grateful for the recent donation made by the local Salvation Army.

Ashley Allen, coordinator for the Ellis County Salvation Army, saw a huge need to help children and youth in the community who are in out-of-home care. With so many children entering foster care or a residential setting, they had no resources to help them collect and transport their personal belongings. Ashley reached out to western Kansas communities for luggage donations, and the response she received surpassed all of her expectations. Thanks to the generosity of so many in the community, Ashley was able to collect and donate over 300 suitcases.

In addition, many of the cases contained stuffed animals and a variety of hygiene products inside of them. Thank you to Ashley, the Salvation Army and the community for helping so many children and youth have a reliable, dignified way to keep their personal belongings with them.
