Camber Children’s Mental Health Facilities Earn National Recognition for Health and Safety

What if safety and support weren’t extras but the starting point?

Camber Children’s Mental Health is proud to share that our inpatient hospitals and residential treatment centers in Kansas City, Wichita and Hays have officially achieved the WELL Health-Safety Rating from the International WELL Building Institute—making us the only clinical mental health care facilities in the country to earn this certification.

“To say I am excited is an understatement, and I look forward to assisting with getting Children’s Mercy + Camber Mental Health certified as well once they hit their one-year operational status,” shares Tracie Lynn Calhoun, HR Manager at KVC Health Systems.

For a behavioral health facility, this certification shows that we are passionate and intentional about the mental health and safety of our clients, as well as the health and safety of our staff.” — Tracie Lynn Calhoun, HR Manager

The WELL Health-Safety Rating is a trusted, third-party verified designation based on rigorous, evidence-based standards that assess everything from air and water quality to emergency planning and cleaning protocols. “The message the certification sends is that Camber values and invests in the health and safety of their employees and occupants. This is not a certification for those doing the bare minimum,” explains Ashley Langenfeld, Vice President and Director of Sustainability at Hoefer Welker.

“The standard is created by a cross-section of experts from the medical, building and research industries. Furthermore, health and wellness was not just considered in the day in and day out situations, but in ALL situations.”

At Camber, we believe the right environment is essential to healing.

We provide inpatient mental health treatment for youth and adults, and residential treatment for youth ages 6 to 18—combining therapeutic, medical and educational support with a focus on emotion regulation and social skills. We’re proud to lead the way not just in care, but in the environments where care happens.

The WELL Health-Safety Rating reflects our commitment to building spaces that feel safe, calming and ready for anything—whether it’s a daily routine or an emergency. “Whether you are working at Camber or entrusting them with a loved one for their care, you can feel confident no matter what, they will be safe and cared for. If you are a neighbor, you can rest assured knowing that this is a safe and secure facility near your home,” says Langenfeld.

“It was a privilege to work on this project and see the solid procedures already in place as we gathered information to achieve the WELL certification. I’m so grateful to work for a company that puts the health of employees, clients, and their families at the forefront.”Diana Wurster, Marketing Automation Specialist

Camber is one of only two organizations in Kansas—and one of just four clinical healthcare providers in the world—to earn this recognition. “Hopefully, this third-party verified certification helps continue to break the stigma on mental health and that needed places of care like this can coexist in any situation if securely and safely maintained, such as this one,” Langenfeld shares.

At Camber, care begins the moment someone walks through the door—because where you heal matters. Whether you’re here to receive care, visit a loved one or support others in their healing, safety and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do.
