Volunteer Makes Birthdays Special at Hospital
Shivani Lokre started volunteering at KVC Prairie Ridge Hospital in December 2013. Lokre believes birthdays are happy occasions, shared with loved ones including family and friends. But for some children, birthdays can be a painful reminder of the family with whom they no longer live.
Since January, Lokre has celebrated 25 kids’ birthdays at KVC. She contacts the families to include them in the celebrations, then purchases the decorations, presents and snacks.
“Coming to KVC to celebrate kids’ birthdays is an opportunity to help a child feel special and loved,” said Lokre. “Having birthdays forgotten is especially difficult given the level of challenges and losses these children have experienced already. I just want to spread some joy and bring smiles to these kids’ faces.”
KVC Hospitals has several volunteer opportunities, and we are always looking for great people to help with programs, special events, and fun activities with our youth. Click here to view our current volunteer opportunities and qualifications.
